Our History

It all started with a sabbatical in 2012. Pierre-André travelled to Thailand under the auspices of ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) for a humanitarian project (training young teachers in a Karen refugee camp / helping in a home for girls protected from human trafficking). During his stay, he was enthusiastically told about an orphanage, dormitory and school in Siem Reap, Cambodia. He went there in spring 2013 and fell in love with the country and its people. He saw the extent of the needs in a poor country, paying a heavy price for its painful past. Very quickly, strong ties were forged with young people and individual help was set up on an occasional basis to provide access to education and autonomy through work.

In December of the same year, Pierre-André travelled to Tigray, Ethiopia to visit an orphanage with a school supported by ADRA Switzerland at the time. There too, he noted the extreme poverty but at the same time the desire of this very resilient, joyful youth to move forward in life.

Since this experience and these meetings in South East Asia and Africa, Pierre-André travels each year to these two countries in order to meet the young people he monitors and to assess their requirements.

In August 2015, seeing the need to better structure the aid he was providing, he set up a small Association named FaR.

Our actions

  • Since 2015, FaR has been providing schooling and equipment to Cambodia and Ethiopia.
  • Currently, we are helping young people at the Butterfly Paradise Orphanage  and at the secondary school on the same site.
  • Since 2022, the Association has also been working with students at the Caleb Center - Takeo Adventist School  near Phnom Pen.
  • From 2013 to 2018, we were present at the Children’s Village Elshadai orphanage in Wukro (35 km west of Mekele) in Tigray, northern Ethiopia. Unfortunately, political circumstances (civil war) forced us to leave this area.
  • Since 2019, we have been working with the New Hope Centerfor children & handicapped orphanage and school  in Guder (131km west of Addis Ababa).
  • We also monitor students at the the Ethiopia Adventist College (EAC) in Kuyera Dedeba (240km south of the capital Addis Ababa)
